DeConstruct™ Project

Westminster Village, Arkansas

NCC has received initial funding to develop a substantial DeConstruct™ project at Westminster Village of the Mid-South, a retirement village, on the grounds of former Eaker Air Force Base in Blytheville, Arkansas. NCC will partner with Westminster Village and plans to deconstruct more than 300 housing units that have remained on the Air Force property since its closure in 1993.

The DeConstruct™ project estimates training and employing more than 70 people throughout its three-year lifespan. The NCC also estimates that recycling and salvage through deconstruction will result in an estimated 25,000 tons of materials diverted from local landfills. The DeConstruct™ program outcomes include significant economic benefits to the local and surrounding communities.

“The Blytheville area is poised to pioneer the first large scale DeConstruct™ education and training program in the nation,” said Neil Kaufman, NCC Executive Director. “To successfully manage a project of this magnitude, we’ll be establishing a local chapter of NCC and integrating it into the community as an employer and job training operation.”
